Edo 2020: What Oba Of Benin discussed with Obaseki and Ize-Iyamu

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II on Wednesday, held a meeting with Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu ahead of the governorship election in Edo State.

Incumbent Governor Obaseki is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while Ize-Iyamu is flying the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 19 governorship polls.

Both candidates are frontrunners in the upcoming polls.

The meeting with the traditional ruler is believed to be in connection with how to curb the rising cases of violence among political opponents in the build-up to the election.

Recall that Oba Ewuare had promised the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who visited him in Benin last week that he would meet with the two candidates to find a solution to the increasing political violence in the state.

The traditional ruler had expressed sadness over the violent political happenings in the state and had promised to wade into the matter to find a lasting solution.

The meeting was still in progress at the time of filing this report. Further updates on what was discussed at the meeting will be published later.
