BREAKING: President Buhari suspends 12 EFCC Directors

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the suspension of the 12 directors of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with immediate effect.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami has, however, forwarded the notice of suspension to the Acting Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Mohammed Umar, on Tuesday.

Standard News learned that the suspension was to allow an unhindered probe into activities of the EFCC under the administration of suspended Acting Chairman of commission, Mr. Ibrahim Magu.

It was gathered that the EFCC’s executive secretary, Olanipekun Olukoyede, was among those suspended by President Buhari. Olukoyede became the Secretary to the EFCC in November 2018 following confirmation by the Senate.

Olukayode, who was the former Chief of Staff to Magu, replaced Emmanuel Aremo, who left the agency after the expiration of the five-year tenure in July 2018.

President Buhari had last week approved the suspension of Magu, who facing a presidential panel led by Justice Ayo Salami probing various corrupt allegation levelled against him.
