#JusticeForUwa: Fish out killers of UNIBEN student - Obaseki tells Police

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has ordered that the Nigerian Police Force to investigate the death of Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100-level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN).

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Miss Omozuwa was brutalised by unknown men when she went for bible study in a branch of RCCG, Edo Province 10, Ikpoba Hill, Benin. The 22-year old was brutally raped and severely beaten on May 27, 2020.

According to reports, the men made their way into the church auditorium where they struck her in the head with a fire extinguisher, raped her, and left her dead. This has however caused a stir on social media as many Nigerians demand justice for the deceased using the hashtag #JusticeforUwa on Sunday.

However, Mr Obaseki announced that he had ordered the Nigeria Police Force to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the death Miss Omozuwa.

"The @PoliceNG has been mandated to identify, arrest, and prosecute anyone found culpable in her death. The Violence Against Persons (VAP) Law is in effect in our state."

"Using this law, we would ensure to investigate what exactly transpired and deal decisively with those found complicit in the dastardly act, whoever they might be. #JusticeForUwa," he wrote on Twitter.
